I am the last one to ever criticize or condemn additional education. There is no such thing as too much education, bad education, or worthless education. While gaining a MBA may give you additional information and tools to further your career -- and certainly opens doors to positions that require that degree -- it isn't a magic pill to guarantee success or a silver bullet to slay the beasts that stand in your way. Like any other decision, you have to look at the advantages and disadvantages, the costs and benefits, the risks and rewards and then make the decision that is right for you and your career goals.
I have never gone for my MBA bc it feels more like a personal badge of honor instead of actually helping me increase my opportunities and wages. I do want it- but it’s always felt like the cost and time wouldn’t actually have a benefit. I was just promoted to vp and as I look to future roles- this is the first time I’ve felt like it might make sense to get it.
