I have a 775 but was turned down for a damned Amazon card because of the amount of debt I have between mortgage, auto and student loans that I share with my wife (0 credit card debt). It’s a friggin mystery how some companies evaluate your creditworthiness.

No, you may just not have an adequate credit history.
Are you old/young?
Have you had a bad credit event?
Do you have a mortgage/car loan?
Multiple credit cards?
Pay on time?

Too low for what? It's debatable, but "great" credit is 740+ or so.
If its a primary home, try for FHA refinance
Is your score offensive or the fact that someone said that to you?

Offensive? Nope, at least it depends on the context.
Too low to get the best rates, that normally start at a 740 score? Yup.
Yeah it’s not great but not bad.
You're a few points below the top category... hardly a bad score. But this whole credit score garbage is such a ridiculous game.
720 is good but not great. It’s enough for most lenders if the application looks good on other dimensions, but not a slam dunk.
And in reality there are many credit scores, which can all give somewhat different results in borderline cases. There’s FICO 2, FICO 3, FICO 8, FICO 9, Vantage 3, Vantage 4, lenders’ own scores. You could be 720 on one of those but 697 on another and it could make a world of difference
It's good but it's not top tier. 740+ is the top tier but even in that bracket you have a better chance of getting the best rates if your score is north of 800.
That’s pretty low. Ideal is at least 750
What for, house? Car? There are different credit scores for different things

Should churn some credit cards and just pay on time. I did that and watched my FICO go from low 700s to over 800 in 2 years.
Offensive vs Expensive. Offensive - Depends on how you take it. Expensive- Hell Ya.
