Has anyone here switched from a big 4 to a smaller firm? What was your reason for switching and do you have any regrets?

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

I’m wondering is it good to jump to industry for my next move or move up in the consulting world to polish my resume better with MBB or Big 4 in my resume… any thoughts? I really don’t know what to do in life so either one works for me, but I’m just lost.

Does anyone have experience/knowledge regarding whether the different B4 deal analytics teams 1) work remote 2) still travel? Looking to potentially make a switch but have heard different things across the board, including seeing that most of the job postings for senior roles in these groups are tagged to offices and don’t say remote.

At some Big 4 companies there is a Partner / Principal group that has equity and are part owners of the business and an equivalent Managing Director group that does not have equity and are essentially employees.

I’m a tax senior in big 4. Which role in the industry has a better career trajectory in terms of growth and pay: senior accountant or senior tax accountant? I do a lot of tax provision and starting to find tax interesting but I’m not having a lot of luck finding openings for in house tax roles.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

is anyone familiar with pay differentials, negotiating for a temporary raise or some other form of compensation for extra work? 3 coworkers on my team have recently resigned, and certain shifts are being expected to work at half staff until new hires can be brought on. if my workload is being doubled, i expect to be compensated, as they are paying one employee to do the work of two. any suggestions or wording on how to address this?

Currently going through some negations on an internal role. I’m currently at 88k and they offered me 100k for a position that requires a lot more work. Do you guys think it’s easier to land a higher salary when applying externally rather than internally? Also this is for a territory sales management role. I have around 4.5 YOE in manual testing. I worked for just 6 months in automation(selenium) out of 4.5 years. While giving interview I said that I have experience in manual and automation both for 4.5 years and cracked around 5 to 6 interviews out of 10.

I am afraid will I be able to work properly when I will join new organization as automation tester? As I have learned online only and don't have much practical exposure. Will I face any difficulties while working?
