I have taken 4 technical and 1 manager(final round) round in company A and currently awaiting their response.Company A entire process took 5 months.
In between I got an offer from company B and currently serving notice.
Can I inform Company A about serving notice period?

Depends on the market, practice area and a host of other things. My advice is start looking as soon as you are sure you want to make a move. Right now, it seems firms have started posting more position in hopes of catching people looking to move after getting their bonus. It is deficiently easier to move when the candidate market is hot, as you will have more options, but not impossible when the market isn't.

I would say timing is pretty crucial when it comes to recruitment. Echoing most of the advice above, the most strategic move is to start looking as soon as possible and then pick the right opportunity when it comes up. A good recruiter is helpful in that regard and I would always recommend Max Campbell at MRA Search as making a tangible difference. As the advice above suggests though; you can have a hot market in a certain practice area, or other circumstances like turnover post-bonus season that really drive a lot of job opportunities for associates

This is a great time to look for a new position and then secure a start date after bonus season.
timing does matter as practice area, the legal market you’re in, type of firm, years of experience you have, job market, etc.
if you’re absolutely sure you want to switch positions, start looking ASAP. like.. yesterday. some will say this is a good time to be looking; others will say it’s not. i got a very good new job in this market that pays better than my previous position, better benefits, remote, etc.
i also would just put out there to take into consideration your resume. do you switch jobs frequently? how long have you been in the job force? how long have you been at the job you want to leave now? these things will matter to those reviewing your resume, whether it’s a recruiter, HE individual, managing partner, hiring partner, etc.
