No I think if fiance(e) doesnt care then its preposterous to spend that much on a mined diamond when lab is virtually identical in every way but price.
lab diamonds saved my life
Why do y’all care about resale value of your engagement ring? Diamonds lose value like cars…. If you’re getting the ring and already thinking about selling it doesn’t that mean you don’t plan on wearing it forever?
OP, you’re not missing anything! I received a lab engagement ring and future hubs is planning on buying me lab diamond earrings to wear the day of the wedding - which he couldn’t do if they were natural bc $$$$… never once have I thought “wait how much do they cost? What will the resale value be?”
I came up with my budget for a ring pretty much randomly, and the size of the real diamonds at that price point was as big as I would want to go, so I just did real. The lab grown ones seem like a good option. I guess I just figured this will be the only ring I buy so I’ll just go the tried and true route. Also I think a lot of people get larger lab grown diamonds than they otherwise would have, and that struck me as hack, even though only a total jackass would ever ask whether a diamond is real or lab grown. Anyway, to sum it up, lab grown seems great unless you have illogical personal issues like me.
No, the ethical argument should also be important here. The diamond mining industry is hugely exploitative and funds wars and violence.
Science: We created a better quality diamond that’s cheaper.
Consumers: No, we like our lesser quality diamonds because the human suffering makes them special. 🙃
No reason whatsoever (both lose substantial value). The benefits in superior quality for a lower price and improved ESG impacts, even after the energy cost to produce lab diamonds, put it clear ahead.
Enjoy and congrats!
Only if you care about resell value. Or if you want to upgrade the ring at some point without having to buy a completely new one.
For ethical and financial reasons, I went with a lab created. I have no regrets!
So the resale value is not something y’all should be considering at time of purchase.
I have always cherished my diamonds and they are not to be given to my children to use as they please.
Their father chose them for me and that’s means so much more than what I could sell them for.
Also as a side note-not all engagement or wedding rings must have diamonds.
I love my lab created sapphire ring and it’s what I wear now that I’m divorced.
It would make a gorgeous engagement ring.
OP-choose the stone of your liking and affordability.
Mined diamonds have more value. I own earrings with lab grown diamonds but I wanted my engagement ring to be mined diamond as their value won’t go down in time.
Also, mined diamonds only have higher monetary value at THIS moment in time because the diamond industry creates an artificial low supply of mined diamonds through their monopoly.
