I have been working in the construction industry for 2 years under a general contractor. I am wanting to get into consulting and my ideal role would be something like an Associate in Major Projects Advisory with KPMG. I’m curious to know which firms/companies have positions and departments like the one mentioned that I could apply for?

What is the “don’t hire portfolios” philosophy?

Anselmo Ramos is very attacked by this
He doesn't
If that’s a thing, I like it. What’s in your book has as much to do with luck and context as it does talent.
Context enables talent. Most of the industry aren’t working for clients, bosses, or agencies that give them the opportunity to produce strong work, year after year. Without a strong book, they can only move sideways. I’m sure you’re great at your job D5, but at some point (probably at the very beginning) luck figured into your trajectory.
I got my break in this business because someone took a risk based on my personal work. Not against this idea at all, but we have to have the time / will to mentor and then to hold hires accountable once they’re established.
I know a team who got hired on a portfolio that half wasn’t theirs
Background checks?
My in-house recruiters are sending me people who don’t even have portfolios. “But she has a degree in creative writing!” Great, then creatively write some ads.
I think it has to do with people who may not come from Wieden or Droga, whose books may not be a Lion collection, but still show nice potential in their thinking. It’s not “you don’t need a portfolio.”
I think someone from GUT said this? And it’s not exactly revolutionary, because the vast majority of books are not all Lions. Or any Lions. That would really limit your pool. People aren’t born with those things, and they often come from being at the right place/right time/right agency/right brief, etc.
We’ve hired a few ex droga people with great books who ended up being duds. I think the philosophy came out of that sort of stuff happening more and more
We’ve hired plenty of shorty creatives with amazing portfolios
Ayyy shorty
Where is this philosophy coming from? Or is this just a commentary based the level of creativity you’re seeing?
Yes, could you explain what you mean by “don’t hire portfolios?” Is this a new big agency recruiting thing?
ACD 2 it’s a gut thing.
That’s a thing?
Wait so I can start applying to jobs even though my book is hot garbage? Lit!! /s
