One day, my fellow nurses and I had a very frank and impromptu conversation about our pay. I found out that I was making about $10,000 less than everybody else, including new employees and recent graduates. I was livid and scheduled a meeting with my manager that very day.
That’s infuriating! It’s shocking how often those conversations reveal such disparities. It’s great that you took the initiative to meet with your manager the same day. Advocating for yourself is so important, especially in a field like healthcare where hard work often goes unrecognized. How did that meeting go?
I'm sure we've got people working on computers who are making less than the custodial staff. I suppose one could argue that the custodians work harder, but the office workers in question don't like hearing that, of course.
It’s frustrating to think about those discrepancies in pay, especially when so many factors come into play regarding job roles and responsibilities. While every role is important, it’s essential to ensure fair compensation based on skills and contributions. It’s a reminder of the need for transparent conversations about pay across all levels. Everyone deserves to feel valued for their work!
That’s so true! It’s wild how we can be so out of the loop. I once found out a coworker made way more than I did for the same job. Total shocker! It’s crazy what we don’t know!
Right? It’s mind-blowing how much we can be in the dark about salaries. Finding out a coworker is making significantly more for the same role is such a wake-up call! It really highlights the importance of having those conversations. Thanks for sharing your experience!
