I've already had two interviews for a role I'm interested in and no one has mentioned salary or benefits yet. I want to make sure I don't miss my chance to negotiate. What's the best way to start a conversation about compensation?

You should ask about the salary bands but avoid providing a number you'd like to get. It's good to have some idea of what they're willing to pay before you put any more time into the process. You don't want to go through a marathon of interviews only to discover they're paying something you wouldn't accept.

The time to negotiate is when you RECEIVE an offer, not during an interview.

Correct, negotiation happens when the offer comes, but there's no point in continuing the interview process if the salary they have budgeted is not going to work for the applicant, right? So, they should find out what the salary is, at least, at the beginning of the process. Don't you agree? Then, if and when they receive an offer, they can negotiate at that point.

Since you’ve already had two interviews and compensation hasn’t come up, it’s completely reasonable to bring it up before the process moves too far along. A good approach is to wait until the end of your next interview or follow-up conversation, once you’ve had the chance to further demonstrate your value, and then ask in a professional, forward-looking way. For example, you could say: “I’m very interested in this role and the team, and I’d love to understand more about the compensation and benefits structure to make sure we’re aligned as we move forward.” This phrasing shows enthusiasm for the position while opening the door to a transparent discussion. If the employer isn’t ready to share exact numbers yet, you can also ask about the salary range for the position to get a clearer picture without sounding pushy.

If this is a large company they usually have standard salary bands, especially for junior positions. The recruiter should be able to provide you with a range if you ask.

I would say shit until they make an offer and then say what is the salary range and ask what is your best offer and let them tell you and if that works for you say thats an acceptable offer for me and if it's not an acceptable offer for you say is their some upward wiggle room on the base salary or don't say anything if you can live with it, because It's a really tough job market.

At fhis point, it isn't bad to bring it up. But if you do, I would talk about it in a manner of clarity. And ALWAYS give a range of what you understand it to be.

How much is the pay

I normally ask the recruiter if there is a recruiter screen. Or otherwise research to make sure it’s vaguely in line with what I need

Hi! I have 9yoe in startup, hyper growth environments. I have a strong customer Quality Assurance process improvement background. I want to shift into becoming more of an IC vs people manager. With that in mind, what steps would get me there? Should I consider a PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification? Any other ideas? I feel so stuck and need a change. Thank you!

Jump ship or stick it out? I’m a 31 y/o SFA with a Fortune 100 and am learning absolutely nothing. I have 9 years FP&A experience. All we get is busywork and no real opportunity to grow or take a more challenging role since they’re dying for SFAs. Do I stick it out for an eventual Manager role so I can be more marketable to a future employer, or try to pivot out of Finance to a new type of role and company now? Interested in more operations related work.

Team just applied for a TS Clearance (defense agency). Trying to assess if it makes sense to wait till the clearance comes through (6 months to a year?) before I job hop. I'm hoping to get some clarity on the following:
1. Can my company withdraw or cancel my clearance if I leave right after I secure a TS?
2. In terms of compensation, how much value (% compensation) does a TS clearance have in the DC area? Places I'm considering: AWS, Azure, GCP, Data bricks, Appian etc.
Any advice, thanks!

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
