I've been a top performer for years. Going the extra mile. Working nights and weekends.

And now I can't stand working past 5pm. And between 9-5 I can't focus on work either.

Things keep falling between the cracks and I'm honestly starting to hope that I just get fired soon.

Sounds like you’re not a top performer anymore, and that’s okay. But if you aren’t okay with that, then it’s time to do something about it

OP Are you me? For me its a structurally unsound deal which compared with unrealistic client expectations that make me feel that I am in a no-win situation and only surviving. There is literally no way to make this project succeed. All I can hope for is to survive a year so that I dont jeopardize my promotion chances. I dong give an F anymore and speak my mind pretty freely to clients. If leadership lets me go...I honelty think its going to come more as a relief than anything else.

like

Accenture 1 I am you except I just don't have guts to speak freely with clients as I am not yet client facing manager. I am just a senior consultant who is supposed to meet the overexpectations sold to clients by managers

Do you feel like you might be feeling the symptoms of burnout?

Feel where you are coming from. Part existential, part exhaustion and just physically not where I want to be.

You need a major career change

What can I answer for you ?

Op - how many years at SM? How far from partner? Can you afford a 3 months LOA?

Been an SM for 2 years. I'm about 6 months from principal, and 3.5 years from partner.

I'm able to afford up to a year off, and am looking into it.

I'd rather not lose pay and leave my firm,. So I'm exploring short term disability as an option for my diagnosed anxiety and depression

Folks, any advice on applying for jobs at a previous client? As a firm we have great relationships with the senior client leadership and I am afraid that the GEP and my RL will eventually find out when I submit my job application. On the other hand, if I tell my RL prior to applying, I will probably end up towards the top of “people to be laid off” list.

Seeking advice. Has anyone negotiated severance pay during covid? I’m in big law and went on flex time (paid less, expectations of billed time decreased) well before COVID, due to family obligations. Anyone else here in the same boat?

I’m wondering if others have raised their flex time status as a way to kindly decline work if it gets to be too much... with big law layoffs and furloughs abound, speaking up feels like a catch-22. I’m the breadwinner, grateful to be employed, and trying to stay sane.

Interested to know others’ thoughts: would you consider the actuarial profession to be recession proof? Do you think there are some tracks that are more protected than others? From where I sit, it’s hard to imagine a layoff of actuaries in my group (health consulting); we have more work than we can handle and are still actively recruiting.

Is it common practice in Singapore for firms to have a probation period for new joiners (duration at their discretion), during which new joiners can be fired at a week’s notice period?
