I feel this way about girls I dated, but not companies I worked at
You miss your old friends and colleagues not the firm. You’ll get over it with time
Chances are if you went back it wouldn’t be the same firm
Meet up with your coworkers on your own time
So what’s best for you
Yes, I left my first job in public in 2011, and I still miss all of them! I've been at the same job in corporate tax for 14 years and just don't have the connection with coworkers like I did there. But I came here for work life balance, and I have that here, so that's why I stay.
Haha yep that’s definitely me. I find that I miss my old coworkers more than the actual company itself. Suffering with people you love hanging out with at work builds a strong connection that’s hard to shake haha. I’m sure it’s a trap though so I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
I have been at Deloitte 7 years and still miss my last job sometimes. But only on bad days. I think of the reasons I left the last place and remember why I did.
I think people who work together in public accounting trauma bond to an extent. You’re overworked and tired. Your clients and/or managers are aholes and treat you like garbage. You’ve left the comfort, ease, and familiarity of school to enter a nightmare workforce, and many of your coworkers in public accounting are in the exact same boat as you are. Your family and friends don’t understand the nightmare you live in, but your coworkers do.
You hit the nail on the head!
At least you have the option to go back. My old small firm got acquired by a larger firm so there no going back for me! I miss it and I am still with the majority of the same coworkers.
I wonder which was your prior firm and your current firm.
Why did you leave?
Meaning you love what you do.
