Rising Star
This app has been a HUGE equalizer. The next time you find a job, post in here and ask what the salary range for the position is.
You’ll never lowball yourself again.
As for the debt. That’s a tough one we’re all struggling with. It depends on your individual situation, but the only way I started to make a dent was using a monthly budget doc I built in excel (and I hate excel). I realized pretty quick where I was wasting my money and put it all toward my loan payments.
You made it this far, you can get to a point of finally being ahead. Just dont quit now.
Can you start looking for a new job or reaching out to recruiters? See how much you could potentially get paid and even use that as leverage for a payrise if you want to stay
Use LinkedIn to connect with people that work in companies you’re interested in and send them a message in the connection request asking them for a coffee chat. I personally always say yes to a chat if someone sends me a proper message on LinkedIn. It’s a very good way to get your foot in the door.

You’ve done an amazing job getting yourself to where you are. You should be proud of yourself. You are definitely not a loser. Just the opposite, you are a winner and a survivor.
Now get out there job hunting and get paid fairly. You’ve got this.
You can do it OP!! I know words don’t mean much but I believe in you and you’re definitely capable of all that you do and more!
Isn’t there student debt forgiveness out there? And just remember you deserve market rate! Even if you are happy with sub market rate fight for it
There is! OP mentioned they work at a non profit which if I’m not mistaken can maybe qualify them for the public servant loan forgiveness (PSLF). Worth looking into esp if they already made 120 qualifying payments! (10 years)
Don’t feel like a loser, use this as motivation to go get your ass paid
OP - 3 observations:
1) there is a difference between “poor” and being “broke”. Look up the definition of poor and think about how seeing yourself as such may effect you. You may be broke right now, but that is temporary. The right mindset put you on the right path to change a lot of things for the best.
2) do you have a mentor from another job or someone you have met within your network that can provide guidance or advice as you navigate your career? I am positive that if you ask for someone’s advice or help thinking through your next move or how to accelerate your career, it will be received positively. I would pick someone with 5+ more YOE than you so they can provide perspective and have some experiences to draw upon. Asking for help has had a huge impact on my career. No one in my family does what I do, so while I respect my family’s perspective and advice, I was also forced to ask for help from others along the way.
3) if you are that far underpaid in your current role, you are not required to stay at that company. Look around for other openings, prepare the data, and present it to your current company. If they tell you to piss off, make a decision based on what you need/want. Before doing this I suggest addressing point 2) first so you are better prepared.
If you can’t find someone to talk to, feel free to PM me. Remember, you won’t get what you want, without doing the work, just keep grinding and kicking ass!

1. Nonprofit work always pays less. 2. Start applying on LinkedIn. 50 applications every Monday is a pretty good pace. Within a month you should have multiple offers. 3. When asked your current salary Do Not Tell Them your salary. If forced, ask here, and lie that its more in line with for- profit industry.
