Who let the dogs out??????
The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?
What…..

just know that no one in the gym is watching you or cares what you are doing. Unless you drop something or scream in pain, no one is paying attention
I actually totally disagree with S1 here — everyone is watching everyone else, all the time. On public transit, how many people do you look at and make instinctive judgements about? In the gym, same thing. I notice the gym bros, the women doing cardio, the overweight folks clearly just starting. And I judge them all, in my head, all the time: the gym bros seem shallow and slightly intimidating to me, The newbies really need a form check, etc. But the key point here is that it DOES NOT MATTER. No one is coming up to me and telling me that I grunt like a rhino on the last rep. No one is going to say “wow you look great”. The only person whose opinion matters in there is my own. So even though everyone is looking, judging, observing, I just do my thing and observe right back.
Getting a trainer for a month to start off at least is probably a great idea for OP, to help feel like you belong a bit more.
I was really intimidated & self conscious about myself when I first started hitting the gym.
But then I learned that unless you're a really attractive woman, no one really cares about you or what you look like at the gym, lol.
Seriously, no one cares. No one is comparing or watching you. Get some good headphones, put on a playlist you like and hit the weights, bro.
Deadlift. Bench. Squat.
Follow this holy trinity - the people who know what you’re doing will be supportive no matter what. I deloaded my weight to focus on form and strengthen my base. Nobody cares what you have on the bar.
Also want to add this is from a former skinny kid. I’ve had people call out now that I look like I do Olympic lifts because it just gives you such a particular build. Youll be building true strength vs the traditional beach muscles you’re likely basing yourself on.

Join a group, or hit me up and i can train you
How do you train people? :)
Get some weights for at home or TRX cables to start just to gain confidence in yourself!
Former bikini competitor and I can tell you that the normal gym rat community is actually really uplifting with each other so it’s all in your head but starting at home will help you get out of your head!

Try starting at home. Removes anxiety from the equation. Start small and work your way up, try different things, build up some strength along the way, then decide on a gym once you’ve learned what kind of workouts and routine suit you (that you can stick with). No need to jump into the deep end, you might even find that working out at home is more convenient so you’re more likely to keep up with it.
If you really want to go to the gym but feel awkward about it, try going off hours like late at night or mid-afternoon or mid-morning when less people will be around, or choose a less popular gym to start out with. Gyms have dead times. Maybe work with a trainer during one of those times to take even more edge off.

Get some hand weights and download the Peloton app. The app is $13 a month and they have a ton of strength training classes that are anywhere from 10-60 minutes with most in the 20-30 minute ranges. They also have programs like “Intro to strength training” that will tell you what class to do every day. Do these consistently and you’ll be an expert in no time and will feel confident enough to go to the gym!
Lots of great advice here for the OP. Just came here to say that I understand it's hard. It sucks. But you can do it.
yesterday you said tomorrow!
Literally nobody gives a shit about what you’re doing/are judging you. Just get in there and start moving weight 💪🏻. You got this
Try something at home. Insanity worked for me. No weights required. If you follow the diet they recommend and the workout routine, you will really start to feel and look better

I feel ya mate, been ther, but I recommend just going for it even if u feel uncomfortable; this trains u to mentally not run from things. And this matters, mental training is a huge part of fitness. BUT if u absolutely feel it's too much:
1) try starting wit machines then once u get strong from ther, go to free weights
2) Or find a workout buddy
3) Or go to gym when it s emptier (and cleaner).
You could always pick up swimming. You could join a swim club or just show up to your local pool and swim.
There are 2 strats I employ, 6am swims for when I’m feeling a hard workout. Or I take my lunch break to swim at my local gym(it’s usually empty save for a few elderly people who will swim too or wanna chat)
And at your age, you could easily outclass them physically so you won’t be the weakest in the room. Plus the swimmers physique is slender so you are already close.
Best of luck.

25M. I was 6’2 140lbs in highschool. Now I’m 190. U gotta eat man. 0.8g of protein per body weight. And hit the weights. You don’t need a trainer just follow JPG coaching on Insta. Also you’re a 25 year old man - “I don’t feel comfortable” isn’t an excuse anymore. Get in the gym. DM me if u wanna talk more
Bring the gym to you! Buy a barbell and work out at home. No eyes, no judgement.
-Reasonably fit person who hasn’t stepped foot in an actual gym for years
25M here too. Started in the gym a couple of weeks ago. But did HIIT with the freeletics app since the first lockdown. Felt weak in the rack and on the bench with this tiny 5KG weights on, given that I‘m 196cm 😅 But everyone starts somewhere. And remember that almost 70% of your results are made in the kitchen, so yes lifting without eating enough is a waste of time.

Even if you are the weakest at the gym (which is unlikely), you are ahead of the vast majority of people who don’t even go to the gym. Nobody is paying attention to anyone but themselves in the gym aside from the occasional glance at some eye candy. You can always go in off hours so super early or late in the day when the gym is less crowded so you feel less self conscious. Getting into a regular routine will have you completely forgetting this self conscious idea once you go to the gym regularly, I had the same fear when I first started going and after a week or two I stopped thinking about it. Everyone has to start somewhere, and it’s better to start at the bottom then to never start at all

I hated working out at the gym, and still don’t love it - but bought some free weights and started doing HIIT at home and once I felt more confident, asked a friend to join me at the gym and felt much better about going.
Eat healthy, make sure you’re taking in enough protein, and make sure you’re actually fatiguing yourself (if you lift try to do enough reps to where you feel like you can only do 2 more before failure, this is called RPE). Everyone starts somewhere. I myself am overweight so I have to lose the weight first before the muscle comes out. If you don’t have extra pounds you’ll notice muscle definition faster than I will.
Focus on the improvement from last month, not on how much you can lift vs the bob the builder who had been coming his whole life and can bench your body weight on 30% of his left upper peck. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Expect it to take about a month or so before you can really notice something and others might begin commenting then too.

When you say you don’t feel comfortable around free weights, do you mean at the gym or all free weights in general?
If you have the space, buy your own workout equipment. It’s worth the money. I had a lot of gym anxiety but once I got comfortable lifting weights, I started going to planet fitness with a friend and got over it. I like planet fitness bc i don’t think anyone takes themselves too seriously over there, which is what I needed. Originally I thought I’d only be ok going to the gym after I built a certain level of strength, but I just feel really good after getting a good workout and that’s all that matters to me at this point.
