I’ve got an offer from another agency: higher pay, title upgrade, but it’s a 12-month contract with no benefits and no guarantee of staying on. My current role is permanent with lower pay… and a workplace that’s purely toxic with back stabbing people and mangers

This would be my first time contracting, anything I should watch out for? Or is staying put the safer move considering the current economy?

No benefits means some your higher pay goes towards those needs. I’d stay put, keep your interviewing going.

Take the job and leave the toxic workplace. There is nothing stopping you from continuing your job search once you move into the new position.

Can you go on cobra? If it’s good for your book, more money, less toxic, I’d say go for it. You can get some new work and meet new connections and even keep looking for the right thing.

Though cobra isn’t cheap so make sure you don’t end up losing money paying for it.

Stay put and keep looking. I contracted for over 2 years and eventually landed a full time role. Contracting equals no health benefits, no paid time off, etc.

like

If you have a spouse/partner that can add you to their benefits (or the money to pay for your own healthcare) then do it!!! I’ve been contracting for almost a year now and I love it.

Hard no. Keep looking.

Just make sure you negotiate a rate that makes up for lack of benefits. That’s what I did when I freelanced for a bit to get out of a toxic agency

This!

I might be the odd one out. When I was looking I signed a role for a one month freelance job. They loved me and the situation was really for a permanent role they just didn’t have paperwork. My gig got extended another month. And another. Then got it in three month increments. Ended up getting brought on full-time and worked there for two years. So you never know. That being said, the reality of the role was the person before me quit and it was a holding company that was impossible to actually do anything. So the account/team/agency needed the role but technically it didn’t exist anymore so they had to keep going back to the holding company to get it official. Sometimes it is a dead end, sometimes not. I’d honestly ask chat gpt, what are some questions when interviewing for a temp contract to figure out the reality of the role, growth, and a future.

Not a good time in the market to make risky moves.

I think everything is risky these days including full time.

@PWC is worst company for freshers. Asking for advice- I’ve realized consulting is not the path for me long term and have had plans to quit. I’m currently staffed on a project alone and feel lost as I don’t have much experience in this line of work. Deadline is approaching and I have voiced my concerns to finish in time. Manager is still reviewing my work and the turnaround time to make revisions and finish phase 2 work seems unlikely within a few days. Is it unreasonable to ask for another resource to help finish?

Hi,

JPMC call candidate with 3 months of np for interview and expected CTC for 3.6 years of experience with techstack as java fullstack?

I recently interviewed with Natwest and I got confirmation that they wanted to offer a role. Salary negotiations were started. However, now I got an email from the hiring manager that hiring for my role has been paused due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. He expects to resume the hiring for the role in Q1 '23 and would resume the process then. So is it the end? Honestly, I don't expect him to come back. But what do you think?

We’re in such a vicious business. You give your heart & soul to an agency, a client, a brand. Then the wind changes & you’re laid off, reassigned, chewed up, spit out, on to the next. I’m tired.
