Just curious, have you frequented a laundromat? Are we talking a poor person (generally speaking) laundromat or a laundromat that caters to professionals?
Holy kebab! I don’t think we are from the same social class, Blake Lively.
Dont have experience in the realm but 1) Cleanliness. 2) any business that has equipment/ machinery should have preventative maintenance program for said equipment. Can’t make money if equipment doesn’t work.
Thanks! This is at least a useful response :)
Used to go to one - back when my house didn’t have a dryer and I needed to get stuff washed & folded.
What is a poor person’s laundromat vs rich?
In NYC, btw. Not everyone here has in-unit washer/dryer and they are not always poor
Poor person has the quarter candy machines and young children. The other one is where folks who don’t do laundry just drop off their clothes and pick them up folded. I’m not an expert idk but when you’re in a laundromat for downtrodden you know. I have no conceptualization of how folks do their laundry in NYC though.
I can’t recall what show I was watching but this guy bought a laundromat and was regretting it due to high costs of water and electricity costs in the area. Also, he did the maintenance on the machines to avoid maintenance costs.
Plus, have to have a way to convert quarters / coins.
The TikTok and IG videos make it look easy, but there’s gonna be sweat equity involved and it’s a toss-up when the machines start to break down. It’s like buying a car wash.
I guess it also makes sense why some end up buying a few laundromats: economies of scale.
I don't think it's by all means a passive income source. You have to spend a lot of time and effort collecting the cash and because it's mainly a cash business, it's hard to hire someone to do the work. High chance of them taking the money since it's not traceable.
Nowadays they have cards instead of coin op
There’s a place a couple blocks away from me (Brooklyn) that is a laundromat, but behind it is a pinball Arcade/bar - it’s like speakeasy style. I obvi don’t know the financials but I always thought that was such a good idea.

It's all cash unless you upgrade to cards. Be prepared to collect a lot of quarters. I met the owner of the one near my house (we have a washer & dryer, but bring the dog's stuff to the laundromat) and all he does is collect the cash and fix the machines when they break down. Surveillance does the rest and one TV for background noise.
