Any tips on how to use up gift cards with <$3 on them? I know some stores won’t accept as a payment method. Don’t live in a state that lets you cash out under a certain amount.

Any stores / websites you’ve had luck with? Hate to throw out free money, even if it’s a few bucks

-They'll auto drain at most grocery stores.
-You can also reload your Amazon GC balance (minimum reload is $0.50).
-Lots of cable, internet, cellphone, and locak utility sites will also allow small partial payments

Store specific gc or a visa/Mastercard gc? If the former, that’s store should still take them (I’m pretty sure they need to), if the latter add it to your Amazon account.

like

I’m going assume is a MC one and agree with adding it to Amazon for a rainy day

Pay your internet bill with the exact remaining amount and rest, you can pay with your normal cc.

like

Usually for small amounts, you need to know the exact amount, then it's easy to spend.

like

This has been my experience as well

When I get a visa or MC a gift card, I just apply the full value immediately to my Amazon account. That way, I don’t have to keep track of it and ensure that I use the full balance.

like

Use them for one time subscription. For ex: you want to subscribe for Netflix for one month for free, use this card to subscribe. Even if you forget to cancel subscription, your total amount will not be deducted

Amazon gift card balance reload and cellphone, internet, TV bills

I’ve asked Safeway cashier to pay exact amount on the card, and then run it. Then the next and the next. Don’t do it in busy times with them though. You’ll get looks

I got a decent deal on a small 1 bed in a luxury building (hell’s kitc). Should I do a 12 month lease or 24m?

Got the rent negotiated to under 3k + free amenities for a year (gym, pool, etc.). I’m afraid rent will atleast go back to the original price (+5%) and then some. The building has some sort of rent control but that’s predicted to go away in less than 1 year as per the lease. The legal rent limit is way higher.

Would love some perspective on renewal experience after 1 year. TIA.

Is bank interest riba?

I have been researching into this these days and there is literature that shares how lending worked in pre-Islamic Arabia. When the time to pay back a loan came, the lender would ask "would you pay or will you increase?" And that increase was usually doubling the loan. Subsequently ever year the loan wasn't paid it was doubled from the previous year.
