I've spent large periods of my career unemployed, but I'm getting to the point that I am apathetic to it all. Whether I'm hired or fired, none of it really matters beyond a paycheck (and this comes from someone who once "really cared" about work). I feel like nothing more than a cog in a machine when it comes to the system. No matter how hard I work, I know that I'm not actually being evaluated on the value of my work - just personal appearances and connections to management.

Was laid off in Sept. Unfortunately we will be seeing many more coming. It's what happens in a recession. Unfortunately I now also have my age against me. Not in a mentally good place at the moment.

Is it a good time to switch to Deloitte considering all the recent layoffs ? Applying for a manager position in Deloitte Digital , not expecting more than 10% hike from my current salary.

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞
