Why is the burnout/always working culture in public accounting so accepted? Why don’t these firms hire more people to staff the clients so we can have normal hours as well? How have accountants collectively not pushed back for 40 hour weeks year round? It seems like now is the time because public accounting is being exposed as you can see everyone leaving for industry for this reason.

Deciding between UT-Austin, Cornell and UCLA for tech. Scholarships aside, I love texas culture having lived there for a few summers but its the lowest rank on my list. UCLA has one of the best pipelines for tech but I’m not rich and dont know anyone in LA so would i feel left out given the affluence of the area ? And cornell I loved the student body and the inclusive tight knit nature but do they place well in the west for tech? Can anyone help? Thank you!
Has anyone made a move from a boutique firm to Big Law, regretted it, stuck it out, and found success? I am in the ‘regretted it’ phase, but it may be culture shock. I started as a legal assistant for a solo practitioner 11 years ago and am now an IP Paralegal. I’ve never had keep track of billable time, and I think that’s one of the biggest adjustments.
Got an offer for 30% increase in pay from Freddie, haven’t seen much online about the culture there though. Can anyone give me an idea of how it is? Also HR at Freddie was slow and disorganized which put a bad taste in my mouth so I’m a bit wary but the offer was amazing.
Have to move into a new house. Mom is strictly against doing it on a date that is not auspicious. I am generally ok following the guidelines but this time having financial consequences if I delay moving until that auspicious date. Are there any workarounds? Please no hate about being superstitious or not. I believe in my culture and a lot of these superstitions have meanings. Just can’t understand why certain things like weddings and house warming need to be on certain auspicious days
I have an offer to join Pfizer as a SM in internal consulting role. Can I get details on work, WLB, culture, promotions, prestige etc. I am going to be taking a 23% pay cut to join Pfizer.

Anyone tried the new Sanctions Certificate (CGSS) offered by ACAMS? Trying to see how difficult it is considering I don't have a lot of experience with sanctions compliance. I have CAMS & work in AML

I got a Reason of Rejection for Product Management Profile: Reason was given of rejection that candidate is having consulting and customer engagement. Can you please tell any Product Manager, who is building roadmap without knowing Market, customers and their pain points. Please comment what this Hiring Manager has thought in his mind.

For parents with school-age kiddos (kindergarten up), what do you do for childcare? Thinking about giving up our nanny, but worried about juggling days off, sick days, and summer break.
How long is too long before meeting an SO’s parents? We’ve been together a little over 2.5 years and I still haven’t met them. Part of it is because they’re in India and we’re in the US and covid travel bans won’t allow it, but they have suggested FaceTime and my SO refuses. I think he wants to make sure it goes well but given our trip was planned December 2020 and won’t happen anytime soon, shouldn’t I at least meet them virtually? Am I reading into it too much?
I’m afraid to start applying or looking for a new job (I like my current one but it’s not 100% on par with what I’d like to do). I’m in a serious relationship and my partner is excelling greatly in his career, so I must consider this if I apply to jobs outside of our city (really likely because we hate the city we are in and there are more opportunities elsewhere). If I applied it would most certainly be in other cities. How do you manage your career while also considering your partners?
Desi fam anyone with aged parent (singular) in India (Mother or Father) how do you deal with it ? Are retirement homes still taboo?
Graduated in May, just accepted a full time offer at B4. Offer is only contingent on a bachelors degree. My masters is expected next fall but lately I’ve been feeling like what’s the point?? I went to school to get a job, and that’s what I did. Why am I still doing this homework???? Should I just drop the masters? :/
Hello Everyone , kindly like this post as I'm writing to increase my points and seek referrals.
Beginner and trying to get my finances in order. Income: $200k+. Maxed out 401k for the year. I have $60k in my savings account (just paid student debt off this year). I’ve searched the bowl… Are next steps: (a) invest (maybe $30k?) in ETFs and add to it each month, (b) open a HYS at HMBradley to hopefully get a high interest next quarter? I’m not convinced about the mega back door Roth (whether it makes sense for my situation) so putting in only a small amount there. Any thoughts? TIA!
Any sense of % private equity firms charge on preferred equity investments and whether dividend is cumulative or non-cumulative?
