You should not be reaching out to the partners before you join. If they send you an email saying congratulations on accepting the offer, then it's acceptable to reply and thank them, but other than that I wouldn't contact them. And don't ask about the type of projects that you'll be placed on before you join--the staffing process will be explained in your first few weeks there. Congrats on the job!
In that case, then yes it would be totally appropriate to chat and I would recommend taking them up on it.
I'd brush up on excel, python, VBA, or any other analytical needs for the role. Wouldn't hurt to get a certification in something you are interested in while you have the time. Some clients like to see that on the bios that get submitted for engagements.
We typically submit bios a couple weeks before somebody starts depending on the need and the specialty.
Learning Tableau, Powe BI, or Qlik Sense can help quite a bit as well. Looker seems to be in demand lately too.
It is helpful to reach out to the partners that interviewed you when you join and ask for a brief coffee chat.
Why not just chill, focus on your hobbies, read, write, reflect, travel, catch up with friends and family, network elsewhere. Your company will train you when you start.
