McKinsey & Company Any advice to help prepare for data science analyst role at top consulting firms (McKinsey & Company EY Boston Consulting Group etc)? I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

I have seen folks get one and switch from a tech role in the bank to a quant at an IB group.
Yeah I've thought about it too but I also hear the work environment can be tough. I also notice that jobs are also located in expensive locations so maybe after the higher costs the comp is almost meh?

Expect to work very hard and study a ton. You need advanced skills in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, and finance / economics. I suspect your university matters to employers so choose wisely. However, if you do get a role, you will make a ton of money early career all the way to $1 million as a senior. Quants are people that can retire way early with FIRE.
Uhhh I ask because I've thought about it myself. I ended up with an engineering MS with a BS/MS in Physics but have worked for a long while in Tech. I've always had a hardcore background in mathematics/computers and understand some basic statistics (probably my weakest thing). But work environment and higher cost of living has always had me question the move. I also love problems and stuff like the weighing problem where doing some observation let's you infer much more.
Quant finance is extremely difficult to get into. It is literally the top 1%. Like WEB Developer 1 said, you may get filtered out immediately from consideration if you did not go to a top school. The interview questions and puzzles are notoriously difficult. I would suggest reading forums like QuantNet or /r/quant to get a better feel for the competitive landscape. Good luck!
