So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Layoffs have always been a cold process that involves sacrificing people who built your company for the sake of quarterly profit growth. However, these days, companies don't even need to pretend that they care. All human decency has been removed from the employee-employer relationship.

Always been my experience. It's just the way of the world. Seems cold, but I honestly think I'd prefer it to a 1:1 meeting. Better to rip the bandaid than have to sit through some mealymouthed explanation of what a hard decision it was. how much my contributions were appreciated, that it's nothing personal, blah blah blah.

Yes. All layoffs are that way nowadays. The layoff Grim Reaper shows up and whacks your head off while the CEO and investors cheer and sip martinis on their yachts.
It is best to treat employment as an agreed-upon business relationship between two parties. This relationship is "at will," such that either side can divorce the other at any time.
Do not ever fall for the psycho-maipulative tactics companies use to convince you that they love you and have a wonderful plan for your career.
Become the CEO of your career. Use the company to your benefit. After all, that is what they are doing to you. Always know your market value and have a backup plan.
And good way to think about it
And yet companies expect a two weeks notice when you leave but they can terminate you in an instant with just a cold email.
The concept of a two-week notice is now so outdated.
In ages past, when employment was viewed as long-term, and employers (generally) respected their employees, it was considered in "good taste" or "ethical" not to leave an employer hanging. There was also this idea that you should never "burn your bridges," because you might want to work for that company again.
Those outdated concepts no longer exist. The companies, NOT the employees, implicitly changed that (so-called) rule, as demonstrated by their actions.
That's been the standard mass layoff MO for years. It's designed to prevent or minimize uproar and potentially dangerous backlash. It also sends a strong statement that nothing was personal and targeted. There's nothing worse than having to sit next to a disgruntled ex coworker all day wondering if and when they will snap and how dangerous the aftermath will be.

Seems like it from what I’ve heard. There is method in the madness that they want you out of there asap after finding out. It’s a bad situation no matter what. I’m sorry you are going through a layoff. It’s a lot all at once.
