There are plenty of great accountants that don't have CPAs and there are plenty of terrible accountants with CPAs. Of course there are plenty of great accountants that are CPAs. Everyone has different challenges throughout their career. Some people struggle to pass the exam, some people struggle managing teams or have a hard time generating business. The point is there is generally something you can learn from everyone you work with in public. If nothing else, be thankful your manager isn't an a$$hole because there are plenty of those in public too.
Are you for real with that coffee comment? With that attitude you're not going to be managing anything but a Starbucks...and you'll be schlepping the coffee. The world is changing...get on board. Leave the arrogance at the station.
OP, forget the CPA or worrying about others getting certifications. You need to get a new personality. Your manager will eventually pass that exam if they want to. You’re the one everyone is looking down at. You can be a CPA, JD, and MD but with that personality you’ll never get anywhere in life.
Having a CPA is not a big deal, at all. It was the easiest exam I had to take after having ACCA and CFA. It is just overrated by Americans.
Are they from another country? Sometimes if they are a practicing cpa (or equivalent), have experience, and only need to go through the application process here, the company might give them a manager position since they have the SKE
Stop that.
EY2 I could see not exalting the person but... look down on? That's ridiculous. Clearly, the individual made it to Manager for a reason - perhaps it says something that his work speaks louder than a designation. I've worked with enough idiots that earned the designation of CPA and even more truly substantial people without a CPA to know that being CPA doesn't mean that I'm going to add more value.
OP - I’ve my credentials and I still think you are a jerk. I know plenty of people who don’t have their credentials and know more about accounting / auditing because of experience. At my firm, they can’t move up to manager until they are licensed so they are stuck, but damn do they know their crap.
I hope OP never gets promoted.. he’d be a nightmare to work for if he becomes a manager..
You are showing your immaturity. I have been in this business for over 20 years, across 3 firms and am a partner. I have worked with so many different people from different backgrounds and whether or not they are a CPA is irrelevant to their ability to do the job and succeed.
(For the record, I am a CPA, passed all 4 parts on the first try back in the day when you had to take them all at the same time...and I am proud of that. But it doesn’t make me better than the next person who is an EA or lawyer..)
That's stupid...
PWC3: There is no more prestigious certification in our field so I get it.
🙄
EY7 that is an incredibly accurate statement
Looks like I hit a nerve. But, If you are so insecure about your lack of credentials, go get your license. All you have to do is wish for it, or as SA2 says... you “will eventually pass that exam” if you want to. There’s nothing else to add to this thread so... peace out✌️
BUT guess what? He still makes more money than you 😂😂😂😂😂 Get a life, not everyone has the same priorities
EY9: Do you honestly think a CPA is irrelevant to abilities as an audit professional? If so, I vehemently disagree with you .
PwC 8 I think it is significantly easier to study and pass one section at a time, regardless of the content. I think for the most part they changed things because pass rates were so bad- only something like 8% of test takers would pass all 4 parts. I took Becker, back when it was given in person.. I sat in a Church basement 2 nights per week for 6 months and averaged about 20 hours per week studying for those 6 months, while working full time. I wasn’t alone in that level of effort. While for the most I love our younger staff and the energy they bring, I rarely see that level of effort today because it isn’t needed. Back then, saying you passed all 4 on the first go meant something. Now that isn’t relevant.
That said, I also took it before the 150 hour requirement came into play, so it is harder to actually qualify to sit for it today...
Yes, US firm requires a certification for that rank. What SL?
Enrolled Agent?
Accounting would be automated soon.. good riddance of arrogant CPA’s like OP.. u have an outdated certi.. lol
Don’t you have to be a CPA to be a manager at KPMG?
