I struggle with the same thing. I want to leave and my own personal view on prestige is what keeps me here. Honestly, I just want to go work a construction job or something like that. I do not enjoy the work we do at all, but I like saying I work at PwC and I am a CPA.
you’ll have that prestige on your resume... and you can always boomerang back. follow your gut
Prestige and insecurity go hand in hand sometime. Reflect on what makes you happy.
You'll be shocked how literally nobody cares about big 4 on your resume.
> Prestige
> Public Accounting
😂😂😂😂
Once you start interviewing and eventually leave, you’ll realize that it’s not as prestigious as you think.
Who are you trying to impress?
And echoing some of the other comments...how prestigious is public accounting really? At least half of people I meet outside of work don't know what big 4 means.
We're auditors....sooooooooooo prestigious 😂. Go to industry. Last day approaching for me ✌️👍👍👍
Lol. I don’t know many people that are impressed beyond belief if you came from PwC or any other big 4. It shouldn’t hold so much weight on who you are as a person or employee. It’s a great accomplishment to be Big 4, but there are better places to work and other industries outside of public accounting. My friend quit EY to go to PWC and is now at a large energy company. He couldn’t be happier.
Go with your gut.
Prestige and public accounting in the same sentence?
Your resume is stunted? Compared to whom? Bill Gates's resume is stunted too...loser dropped out of college. Now I'm gonna assume that no one would compare your career trajectory to that of Bill Gates, but the point is everybody could find something to be insecure about if that's what you choose to focus on. Don't base your self worth and happiness on comparisons with others - that's just not going to make you happy. Unless, for example, you compare yourself to Joe Schmoe from Podunk High School who never left town and works at Taco Bell. But that wouldn't really make you feel better either would it? Just find something you like to do that you can make a decent living at and do the best you can. Above all, don't compare your "behind the scenes" with everyone else's highlight reel.
It also helps to understand why you feel that way. Is it the work? The people? The opportunities?
I think my resume is stunted.
Work for a large public company and the prestige will still be there
I work for a large financial institution. Feels great
Do an analysis of what matters to you and see overall what is a better move. I would consider work life balance, job satisfaction, health, pay, prestige etc. if prestige is the only thing my friend you already have the answer.
