Just got license as a CPA in January , however I think my future is more in the corp finance/FP&A space. I have an opportunity for a role with a 15k raise as an FP&A analyst 1 for a smaller public company. If I exit before I make senior (partners verbatim told me I’ll make senior after this busy season during mid-year promo in June) will this stunt my growth long term? I’ve heard it will, but wasn’t sure if that’s the case when trying to pivot out of the accounting space.

Bird in hand. Take the job offer you have. It’s not a certainty you will get another FP&A job after your promotion

Speaking as someone further along the career journey, getting a title a year earlier or later at this point is negligible. Even if you get the senior title in accounting nothing has changed about your experience and skill set to suggest the industry owes you a senior title in Corp finance. You might find yourself having to make the harder decision to take a title or pay cut to get yourself on the career path you want at that point. If you know you don’t want accounting, you should make the move as early as possible so you can start your career journey sooner in the path you want long term.

Yea if you’re switching service lines it doesn’t matter if you were an audit senior. The skills aren’t all that transferable so just bounce now if you know you’re going anyway

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?
