What do you wish you would have known before taking on your first analytics role?

I’ve got an informal discussion with a partner at a regional big firm set up through a cousin whose company is a client of the firm. Purpose is to ask about culture etc. with the idea that I am applying there for a specific lateral position in my practice area. I do not have top grades but not awful, from a nationally recognized school graduated over 5 years ago. Is it possible this could lead to a recommendation or some help getting hired or is it impossible to break into even regional big law?

How do other, particularly small, partnerships deal with write offs of client bills? First month as partner and former boss, now partner, had me cover something last minute. Client freaked. Partner said he would write it off and it would just come out of his cut. Now, he’s trying to say that client gets a “credit note” and there’s no money to divide for that matter.

How different is litigating in-house vs. in private practice? I’m tired of litigating in private practice and am contemplating a move to an in-house litigation role with a public university—but the pay will definitely be less, so I don’t want to make the switch if it is going to just be the same hamster wheel. Something I haven't seen mentioned here is Wellbutrin. If you're already on an SSRI for depression/anxiety I highly recommend asking about Wellbutrin to manage ADHD symptoms. The last update i got was a mail saying that "Thankyou for confirming your availablity, and we will share you the time of the interview and link to join the meeting shortly".
And i havent received any update after. The interview was supposed to happen on yesterday.

I have received an offer as SD1 at Amazon Gurgaon. I have 1 yr and 6 months of experience. I did my BTech in computer science from 2016-20. I had some active backlogs as well. Due to covid, many exams were not conducted and as for the ones that did happen, the results are taking forever to come. Right now I have one backlog and the result is yet to be announced.
