Just had an interview at a bank where the hiring manager was saying how annoying and tedious the role is. Was she trying to turn me away?

Ah I just kept saying I’m still interested and don’t mind bla bla, would like to learn

Some surprising responses here. Perhaps they really just wanted to get a reaction, but I doubt it.

If the work is honestly tedious, they probably want you to know that upfront so they don't have to go through the whole hiring process again in 3 months when you realise just how spectacularly boring it is and quit.

Call center interviewers will often tell you that type of work is brutal and not for everyone upfront for the same reason. Sugarcoating the work just makes the revolving door spin faster. Honesty helps weed out some of the folks who wouldn't stay long anyways.

Belive what she says. If she says the role is not the best she might be honest with you because she wants to avoid hiring someone who would leave in a month or two because they don’t like the job. I am sure she wants to save herself time to interview someone else again.

I wouldn’t rely on others saying great things about the company etc. Company could be great but each team is different. Keep that in mind.

I don’t see a point in her trying to gauge your reaction. What’s the point? I think she is trying to be honest with you to make sure she hires someone who is going to stick for awhile and won’t leave shortly after being hired

like

That’s fair, I’d be more apprehensive about the whole thing if it wasn’t my first job post grad. Kind of just trying to get my foot in the door

Use it as a hint - move on

like

Setting expectation - at this point you can ask why the previous person is leaving or no longer working out

like

Either she was being honest because too many people left for the very same reason, or was gaging your reaction to what she had said. Perhaps the manager is sick of interviews, or her job, and want it over with. Either way, it's a red flag, so run and look for something more positive.

like

The motivation is irrelevant. The only question you need to answer is do you want to work for an idiot?

Regardless if they were being honest or lying for some reason, probably not a good place to join

What does the role entail?

Finance is tough right now! Budgets are being cut, reorgs are happening and reporting out on the status of projects, products & budgets is a weekly thing. I don’t think she was testing you, she could’ve honestly been having a rough day, (most are who work in finance) and wanted to keep it real with you. Finance is a cut throat industry but high rewards when the economy is good… high risk, high rewards.

If you have done a sjmilar you would know whether the role can be tedious or boring. But you still doing that role ao you know what you want tk do and it is like someone said trying to gage your reaction and making sure that you underatand that there is aspects of the role that is tedious/repetative.

Its not necessarily a bad thing . What else was said

Random, but valid/persistent thought.

After 2 years of a pandemic and working independently for many years, I am not feeling interviews AT ALL. There are points in the interview where I want to just say "Look! Either hire me or don't".

How can I get over this feeling? I'm over the whole "stand in the line of fire to prove how good I am" bs. Any recommendations for getting over this or possible industries to pivot into to avoid bs interview processes and ghosting?

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!
