Knowing 2080 hours in a year is the benchmark for utilization, how many are approaching 3000 (including chargeable and authorized projects) and how do you manage?

EY thanks you for ur 980 hours of free labor.

likefunnysmart

Ive tickled 3k. It sucks. I managed by quitting afterwards bc I won’t allow it to happen again

like

3000?! WTF

like

I'm did about 1800 this previous year... You all are working too hard 🤣

like

My last few years I have been at 3000 total hours. I have seen others get by with less. It just need to be something you can handle or need to change things up.

like

Do you have overtime goals laid out? At PwC we have placemats that lay out OT hours by staff class. If you’re significantly over the OT hours goal, have a conversation with your coach or partner as to how you can lessen your load (assuming others in your group have less hours)

like

What the hell is wrong with you people. Y’all need to work less and enjoy life a little. I’ve never touched 1800 and life has never been better

like

3000 is way too much and I am sure there is a way to stop it. 2500 hrs is okay but any more than that is just crazy. Also, for the ones not hitting 1800, if your goal is to grow in PA, that may not happen with these hours.

like

How do you find your number at pwc

@PwC3 - My metrics or the monthly utilization report

Thanks. I’m 2400 hours including billable and non billable

The number is high but what I’m talking about does include, chargeable, authorized projects, travel, pto, etc. Does this still seem really high compared to others at EY or other firms? Hard to to identify a benchmark with all the politics.

1800 seems like maybe that is just chargeable.

Yeah we have our plan/goals and I got flagged. Was told they only flag people over 2800. Still wasn’t offered much help outside of asking me to come up with a plan. Honestly I like my job but on a couple large accounts with upside...I drop one and I’m probably taking a big hit to my rep.

There are many ways to “grow” in PA. Grinding your year away to the tune of 3000 hours I guess is one way

Deloitte 1 is that your all in hours though. That would tell people you are working like 35 hours week...you from EU? Lol

3000! That’s almost 50% OT. Crazy. 10-15% OT is reasonable at EY.

Loool I charge half that and I’m still employed

Eat them!

Highest was 3150, lowest was 2900 - pretty much every year I’ve had a transaction like carve outs, restatements, or lots of purchase accounting

Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks. I was told by the director to not mention it to anyone but I figured if anyone knew I got one it’d be my boss. I feel super uncomfortable now because do I essentially lie to my boss because I’m not supposed to talk about it.

When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
