Rising Star
I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st street. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of me, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our life styles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

Simple is best in most cases!
AM: gentle cleanser, ice roll, vitamin c, eye cream, moisturizer, SPF
PM: cleanse twice (especially if you were wearing makeup), retinol, eye cream, moisturizer
All of my products are currently Cerave, The Ordinary, Mario Badescu, or Neutrogena - all super inexpensive, clean, and simple.
Also highly recommend getting a silk pillowcase and dermaplaning (very easy to do on your own)!
Love everything above except do not dermaplane if you have sensitive skin, it screwed up my face for literally a year plus

As a man I just wash my face and I look fine AF.
I do about 100 crunches and check out my abs in mirror for about 10 min to confirm that my skin on my abs are nice and tight.
Bioderma micellar water to cleanse, Vichy sunscreen in mornings, and Kiehl’s ultra facial cream!
My aesthetician said most important is sunscreen. But we aren’t going outside now so YMMV. Aside from that, it’s some sort of chemical exfoliant (I use a glycolic toner whenever I remember, like maybe once a day if that), a serum with hyaluronic, and a moisturizer. And wash your face but honestly I am very lazy these days. I also do microneedling and also think it is worth it.
I swear by Sunday Riley (Good Genes and Luna retinol oil) and then Charlotte Tilbury got moisturizer
What type of skin do you have? One thing that blew my mind was learning the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin. I always thought I had oily skin, turns out it was just dehydrated and overcompensating by making it oily.
My HG’s are:
- Softymo speedy oil cleanser
- Good Cera moisturizer
- skin47 silver chitoderm anti-blemish and scar repair serum
- Sunday Riley Good Genes (cheap dupe TO’s lactic acid)
I recently tried Snail Truecica’s toner and really liked it
R/skincareaddiction is one of my favorite resources.
Also get some tretinoin or retin-a from a dermatologist. Life changing.
In my opinion you don’t need that many steps. Retin-A at night (however often you skin can handle it) and vitamin C in the morning. A good eye cream and moisturizer is all you need for daily. Once a week or week and a half the True Botanicals resurfacing mask.
1. Cerave cleanser (green one)
2. Maelove vitamin C (dupe to skinceutical ce ferulic)
3. Etude House SoonJung moisturizer
Additions depending on time of day
AM: +sunscreen - Missha Sun Milk
PM: +oil cleanse to melt the sunscreen - Kose Speedy Cleansing Oil
Every few days I’ll exfoliate with the ordinary aha/bha peeling solution.
Mine is very simple but my skin thanks me every day for it by being beautiful and fine pored (unless hormones destroy it).
AM:
1) Jojoba oil
2) Mineral SPF (I use Avene)
PM:
1) Small amount of Jojoba to take the tightness out of the skin after showering
2) RetinA - all the way since years. I love it
3) Frank’s coffee scrub (one a week)
Since I shower every evening I don’t use any cleansers.
I have combination skin, and if I had to chose only one product, it would definitely be Sunday Riley Good Genes! I tried The Ordinary’s lactic acidosis serum but it didn’t help nearly as much. I also use The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide. For SPF look at any of the Goop ones. I have used a couple and really like them all.
Good Genes is incredible, I’ve been repurchasing it over the past 5 years
Enthusiast
I love the Double Serum from Clarins. Last a good while and feel like it's all I need other than maybe an eye cream
I just made a big ass discovery today and must share it (maybe lagging behind the trend - if so don’t blame me).
!!Microfiber make up remover pads!!
It removed all my make up just with water including my mascara. Everything was gone within 3 seconds. I couldn’t believe it. Big game changer to my routine as I try to limit the chemical impact on my skin anyways.
I bought mine in Germany it’s called make up eraser too (translated). It was available in both sizes on the shelf :)
Pro
I’ve found that my skin is combination, but sensitive. The more natural my products, the better. Remember when we were teens and they told us all to use benzoyl peroxide on our teen acne? Turns out, it made my skin worse and it was a vicious cycle. Now, I like Tarte’s frxxxtion stick to wash my face. I like FAB’s facial radiance pads and ultra repair moisturizer. I buy the largest size for the moisturizer and it can be used anywhere. I use Farmacy dew it all total eye cream and if I wear any makeup, Kate Von D’s Lock-It Concealer Creme will cover up my raccoon circles. If I want a little makeup or use it under my makeup, I invested in Glamglow’s Glowstarter mega illuminating moisturizer. Pricey, but smells like citrus. Fresh sugar lip balm adds a touch of color to my lips if I don’t feel like going full glam. Also, don’t waste your money on Lipsense. Buy Maybelline superstay 24 color at a drugstore.
I like to keep it super simple... cleanser: CeraVe Foaming Cleanser; moisturizer: Philosophy Hope in a Jar or Drunk Elephant Whipped Moisturizer; mask: Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask or the 24K Gold Mask (use once a week). Eye cream is Origins Ginzing. Super cliche, but I eat clean (no gluten or dairy) and that really helps my skin.
oily skin and brown complexion here. I have low key become obsessed with skin care since quarantine began and have bought several products, but of all of them I have to say Paulas Choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant has given me the quickest results - minimizes pores, evens skin tone, reduces and fades acne. I purchased it after hearing glycolic acid can actually cause more hyperpigmentation for darker skin tones (I bought the Ordinary 7% - this is too high %). also many people believe you only need sunscreen outdoors, you also need it indoors cause you can still be exposed to light.
as someone else mentioned above, just because a product may be popular, it might not be made for your skin tone. POC have to be careful to not damage their skin with the products out there. do your own research!

7 to 10 steps is absurd. You are stripping off natural oils only to replace them with moisturizers. Unless you have problem skin, you only need makeup remover, SPF, and moisturizer, no? OK maybe two moisturizers so one can have Retinol.
