I am transitioning to curly hair after getting keratin treatments for the last few years, and it is a struggle. I use the LOC method (leave in conditioner, oil, curl cream) with devacurl and shea moisture products.
👀
I got regular keratin treatments for about 3 years. I have very curly hair (think Keri Russell) so the keratin did not remove all curl and left it wavy. However, a coworker with finer curls got it done once and her hair was stick straight after.
Not sure about being harmful long term, but it's a situation where once you pop you can't stop. The keratin never completely washes out and your curl pattern will be permanently altered until it grows out. Took me 2 years to grow my curls back out at full strength. If you're looking to just tame your curls I recommend a Ouidad cut and lots of product including leave in conditioner, argan oil, and gel or mousse.
Condition your hair with "Brazilian Tech" at Sally Beauty Supply. It's a wonderful keratin treatment and it will smooth your waves/curls. After you wash your hair out, dry with a "shirt". Not a towel. And put coconut oil through your hair. No more frizz.
For the cost of keratin, you might consider a drybar subscription instead and just do blowouts once a week. I got the drybar yellow dryer in travel size and it really upped my styling game and cut my drying time down.
I loved It! Took no time to blow out my hair and looked nicer if I left it curly. I had to stop when I had a baylbu..but miss it so much. Unclear on health impact
I've been doing keratin every 4 months for the past 3 years. It's smooths out the frizz. The hair's natural volume drops and curls will flatten for the first couple days to 1 week. My hair salon has multiple types of keratin, with varying strengths and chemicals. Highly recommend! I can roll out of bed without doing anything to my hair. The couple weeks before my next treatment, I'll usually run a straightener through for 2-5 minutes. So easy!
Just got mine yesterday! So far, it's ok. Flat as expected because they iron it straight after the treatment, however I am confident it will come out nicely once I wash it. I have gotten a lot of comments on it
Just smooths; I adore it!!!! Buy one on Amazon and do yourself; save the high price tag
I love it. I have curly and frizzy hair. Now my hair looks wavy with less volume. It you're getting a hair cut just before your treatment, remember to get one that suits flatter hair.
Couldn't deal without. Been doing Keratin for many years. Tames and smooths my very thick, course hair. Removes frizz. Makes it feel softer and look shinier and blow drying is faster/easier. Slowly washes out over a period of 3-5 months depending on how often you wash. Need to avoid getting your hair in pools and ocean water and use shampoo without sodium chloride or sulfates.
Side question- those of you with curly hair who don't get keratin done, what do you do to maintain your curls? What exact products do you use? I have night a lot of expensive products in the past that I've not been very satisfied with.
