McKinsey & Company Hi all! Any fishes at BCG and/or McK have time to chat sometime within the next few days/weeks?
I’m a consulting analyst at Accenture, really interested in strategy work (mainly tech/software clients but open to all backgrounds) hoping to make the jump some time next year. I’d very much appreciate connecting to understand your journey with the firms and the work you do.
Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

I think it’s clear that younger people very early on in their career < 5 YOE miss the social aspect of an office and networking opportunities.
Personally, I had this image of working for a fancy firm, commuting to their fancy high-rise office in the city, and getting together in conference rooms with small teams of smart people with prestigious clients, traveling all around the world solving business problems.
The reality is more like I sit in my pajamas at home all-alone for almost 12 hours a day in front of a screen, in my 500 sq ft studio apartment, with very inauthentic human interactions, and when the day is over I, as a young single man, just simply go to sleep and do it all the next day.

I definitley could be glamorizing it from my idealistic perspective. But I do work for a “strategy” firm 🤔

Not tired of WFH. Lunch naps FTW.

What don't you like about it? Genuinely curious as I've been WFH for 7 years, and I love it.

I was mid-20s, and it gave me a huge amount of balance that wouldn't have been there otherwise (and still does). I'd still like to hear from OP if they are willing to share their reasons.

I'm beginning to miss the inspiration that comes from more regular interaction with and proximity to colleagues, but I do NOT miss...
The commute
The feeling of being in a cage
The workwear
The associated costs
The early mornings
The painful small talk
The lack of flexibility
The office temperature
The inability to shower/nap/workout mid day
I'd still like the option of hybrid...but I can't say I'd choose office over WFH very often.
I love WFH!
Sorry to hear that! I personally love wfh, and then I get together with colleagues for coffee or cocktails in the city. For those that do not feel safe meeting in person, I set up virtual coffee chats where I go on camera and have a list of questions for them not related to immediate work so I can get to know them. All that helps me to make connections without having to go into an office or pressuring my colleagues to do so

Hey let’s send you back to the office then! All in favor?

I’m 30 and I need office to survive. Need that lunch. I know it’s my employer dangling (literal) carrot but I hate cooking.
Same. While some things about WFH are convenient, I’m ready to get back to the office and expense lunch/dinner. Which is something I’m doing tomorrow

I like being able to WFH when I want, but also really miss the social interactions and going into the office. And also travel, which I never thought I’d say.
There are pros and cons to it. Hybrid is the best way forward IMO.
