Lately, I’ve been running “mini experiments” with my STEM career: one month I focus on public speaking (meetups, brown-bags), another month on a new tool like dbt or Terraform. It keeps things interesting, but also makes my resume look a bit all over the place. Has anyone else tried short, focused “career sprints” like this, and did they actually move the needle on job opportunities?

I guess I’m confused. Why would brown bags and meet ups and learning new tools end up on your resume? What are you putting them under like special skills? Developing your professional and networking skills are great but that doesn’t feel like something would go on your resume.

My goal is to show that I can be the person, manage up and put on multiple hats. Going upstream, management is all about talking to people and convincing them to do things in a certain appropriate way to reach an end goal.

I would put major achievements on the resume and mention everything else in the interview.

I kind of like this idea. It'll be interesting to look back over the course of the year and see how much you were able to accomplish by having these little experiments running. I think I might consider doing something like this with my own career.

Trying to take some Orthodox in this age of AI might be a way to show recruiters that a resume is not AI-made, maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think it is a great strategy

I just finished undergrad freshman year at Emory University with a 3.36 GPA. It was primarily my first semester that brought me down(Got a 3.1 first semester and 3.7 second semester). I'm really scared that I have down my prospects because of the first semester. I feel like I have no shot at things anymore. Initially I wanted MBB(MBB recruiting picked up a massive amount at Emory undergrad this year) but I know there's no chance. What should I do to have some shot at Big 4 consulting

How do you get experience when no one will hire you? I wouldn’t mind hanging a shingle but I feel it’d be irresponsible to do so with no experience. Looking for a remote/hybrid/onsite (Calgary,Alberta) job for my boyfriend who got almost 5 years of experience in proposal writing, RFP, RFI and bid management for a civil engineering firm. I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?
