Law school admissions is outrageously competitive now, more expensive than ever, and by the time these applicants enter the workforce, AI will likely have chilled junior hiring. Even if you get the prized offer at a market firm, you either get crushed with work or not have enough hours and get fired, or likely leave after a few years once you payoff your loans, ie, to get back to where you began. Brutal.

Those aren’t the only outcomes. You can leave after a few years and be in a much better place than you started even if you had six figures of loans. I started with negative 200k in net worth and left after a few years with positive 300k net worth.

Yes I’d never recommend law as the most efficient way to earn money (after accounting for tuition and opportunity cost). I’d always recommend tech or finance first. As much as we say we only do biglaw for the money, which is very true if you’re talking options within law, law as a whole is for people who substantively prefer law over finance and tech and are willing to pay for that preference. Many of us sacrificed a less expensive/more lucrative path for this

Agreed I don’t think this point is raised enough. I would never make as much money in finance or tech because I’m not that good at it. Law, Corp specifically, on the other hand comes pretty naturally to me so in reality my chances of making significant money (and not hating my life doing it) are much greater

It’s still one of the only jobs that pays over $200k with no experience required. It’ll always be competitive

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out
