2015 $85/month towards health ins. 2019 $622/month. It’s sad that in a profession that requires a college education our take home decreases over time. Thanks NJ. Can’t wait to find a new career!!!

I’ve watched a lot of posts and comments about salaries and teachers struggling. There are posts asking what others do part time. There are some saying they can’t afford to teach based on healthcare increases.

I work with other educators part time. Some are also administrators. We are doing a live zoom call this Thursday October 24th @ 8pm EST. This will give your an idea what we do part time and if it’s something you’d like to do with us.

If you’d like the link please inbox me so you know who I am. Or you can also email me

Last year I worked 60%. My health insurance was $1400 a month. We were in quite a bind, due to pre-existing conditions. If I had been working full time, it would have still been close to 800. It is a contract negotiations thing. Here in California, you can push for salary increase, or more allocation to health. In the long run, you don't get enough salary increase to make up for the health care. Those that have a spouse that covers their insurance, generally outvoted those that don't.

Obamacare did that...I have a 600+ premium every month plus copays. I feel like we were better off financially when I didnt work full time.

I read about a stat that said 50% of teachers leave the field within five years.., if I weren’t retired military, I don’t think I’d be teaching- even though I love History and teaching. Most have no concept of the stresses and frustrations - insurance costs among them, are.

Looking for a new mentor. Background- I previously practiced environmental law for some time and transitioned to health care about 4 years ago. Recently picked up pharmacy (in-house). I was interviewed for a Medicare/Medicaid role, but the hiring counsel thought I’d be great at pharmacy so placed me there. Was upfront about not knowing pharmacy one bit, but expressed my willingness to learn. Fast forward a year later- still struggling with Pharmacy knowledge. Looking for resources.. cont’d below

LCSW 50k loan repayment- Has anyone been granted a contract through the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program? I’m interested in applying for the 2 years of full time work as an LCSW but my loans are a bit under 50k so I’m wondering if they would only give me what I need to clear my loans or would I still get 50k as long as I complete my contract ?

I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $350k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

What would you do in this situation?
