I’m looking for a new opportunity and I’m open to either wealth management, financial planning, hedge funds, private equity, asset management, or trading. I’m more of a hunter/closer not a gatherer. I manage $100 Million in assets, but my book is mostly NOT portable. I’m a CFP, ChFC, hold the Series 7, 65, and Life insurance licenses. I have 12 years experience in wealth management and I’m finishing up my MBA soon with a concentration in Mergers & Acquisitions. 3.6 GPA from top 50 university.
What will you be doing at GS? The firm’s back office roles are not glorious. You won’t have materially better exit options leaving from one than at Citi.
Not sure why higher pay and working for a more premier firm wouldn't be enough great things on their own. Ignore the haters, as they say, and focus on making the right move for you. In this case, it sounds like GS is in your best interest.
You are right about the hours. I don't know what your job will be so I can't say what will be different. I have never worked for City.
Expect to work long hours.
Expect great pay.
Expect to be paid based on your performance.
Except for (some people) to be impressed that you work for a more selective company than Harvard.
Except to work hard & smart.
Except not to be told a good job just for doing your job.
As was said, there is not a lot of glory working in the back office.
Smart people, interesting people, interesting work with decent (not great) pay. Just get ready for the hours
Never worked for GS but I’d assume the exit opportunities are much much better if you end up wanting to leave and the networking opportunities as well.
100% the exit opps from GS are pretty amazing, I've seen people do some cool stuff. I think that's the main appeal...but Citi is probs better for overall growth within the company
