Lesson from my ADHD Coach 3: Be clear of your purpose. One thing I struggle with is having too many priorities, and losing focus on my top priority. This results in starting too many projects - or offering to take on new clients too soon. ADHD is great for hyperfocus for days or even weeks, but the energy can fizzle out and result is less than I envisioned.

So the coaches advice is to be clear of our purpose, and test each task to ensure it is in alignment with it. For example, you might want to develop expertise in financial modeling, but find yourself asking to join a business process team. Or your purpose is to spend more time with family, but you also think launching an etsy store on the side would be fun. Or you might really want to make partner, but get distracted by applying to an industry job (or vice versa). It's ok to change your mind, but to achieve what you want to do requires being clear on what you want, and editing out doing things that won't get you there.

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢

Saw my therapist this past Friday and he gave me a useful trick to build better behavior patterns. Whenever you have work to do but would rather nap or something, tell yourself 3 negative effects of the nap and 3 positive effects of doing the work. You might still take the nap, but if you can get in the habit of thinking of it negatively, you'll take less naps when you need to be doing other things.

Doesn't matter what the activities are. Could be working out vs eating more, could be socializing IRL vs wasting time in FB (lol)

Anyone else have a need to exercise daily? A lot of people judge me in a negative way and in reality it is because my ADHD brain needs it. 1) the consistency for schedule 2) exercise can help tone down the symptoms before I sit down for the work day 3) it is the only thing I can control to make it look like I am not a mess (disorganization, interrupting) - basically trying to stay in the game at work based on perception of “having it together”. Just wondering if anyone faces the challenges.

We’ve had org issues - no clear role descriptions or expectations. Yes I do have a hard time staying engaged (and I’m medicated - Vyvance in the am, dextroamphetamine at noon). Thoughts?
