For anyone who receives a quarterly bonus or raise in some form, does your employer start to schedule you for less hours when your raise kicks in, or pull you from a future schedule entirely once you receive a bonus; only to put you back on once the hours you would have worked and earned the amount given are passed? I’m job searching right now and applied for a job I was a little overqualified for just to shoot my shot and get my foot in the door with a great brand. The hiring mgr took the time to email me to tell me I was overqualified and offered to help me get connected to his network. He’s been so kind and helpful and I’m kind of in shock at his generosity. Even if an offer doesn’t come from it, is it weird if I send him a Starbucks gift card or something as a thank you? What’s appropriate?

Edward Jones advisor with 30 million AUM and roughly 250k gross production. Been there for almost 4 years. Got an offer at Merrill Lynch to take over a 100 million dollar retirement transition plan in 5 years, or to join a 5 person Merrill Lynch team that manages a lot.

Pros to EJ: Have my own office, a year or two away from partnership, great office setting and client satisfaction.

Pros to Merrill: Bump in compensation, additional tools and services w banking, ability to take over assets.
