I'm in the same position. Once you've hit Manager, I don't think it's worth it.
It's the option value. Do you want to do what you do now for the rest of your life? Or want to make yourself more marketable?
Think about how long it will take you to pay it off with the salary increase due to the MBA. With the MBA value so diluted it is hard to know how much that increase would be. As a manager your salary is probably above 140k, and most post MBA salaries are hovering that or even lower. You will probably take more than 10 years to repay your MBA based on you salary increase due to the degree itself.
ACN
...and?
Post MBA is senior associate hire. You're looking at either MBA to switch careers or a part time or exec program.
D1 is heading in the right direction. You do have to think about discounted cash flow. That said, the cash flow increases from an MBA will largely be indirect and result from increased skills and broader network. There's also an intrinsic value - psychological, intellectual, social - that is difficult to quantify
I was in that position and decided for it, but that's because I wanted to get into strategy instead or MC system implementation work. Now part of ACN strategy and happy I made the move. Besides, business school is bomb.
M1 - did you leave as a MC manager and came back as a strategy manager?
I didnt come directly back, joined another firm as a manager first and made a lateral move, but you might be able to do it direct. Find a connection with some SMs or Partners in strategy and get their advice on how to make the move.
So is the general view that an MBA really isn't worth it after hitting Manager?
The general view is everyone needs to decide what "worth it" means to them. An MBA is critical if you plan to be C-suite of a large firm. If you're going the startup route and wouldn't be at Stanford, then an MBA isnt a good investment.
Oh yes, and remember that only a few of us have what it takes to be in the C-suite and of course the number of openings is very limited. An MBA is no guarantee that you will get there either.
I can't tell if you're being salty D1 but I agree with everything in your comment.
Not being salty, just realist. And that's what people need to be when investing that much money, if you really feel you will get the return on the investment, you should do it.
