Looking for opinions. As a senior mnger, I sent a followup email to someone mentioning the deadline, nothing out of line, all professional but was very direct.
Next day, that person complained to their mngmt (and apparently cried complaining about their current stresses and personal problems),when this was brought up in a meeting to me &manager. My manager said “If it ever gets to that in the future, reach out to me directly”. Which left me feeling very belittled and undermined.

No, I think your Manager is trying to protect you from the skiver who has complained about their stress issues.
Well maybe the other team needs to hire more people or find someone else to pick up their work. Very unprofessional to lay it out at you or your Manager.
Its work and its a team effort!

With her comment, I felt like I lost all authority to follow up and drive the program. Like people will just run to her “the adult” and skip me if it ever gets to that. Am I reading too much into the situation? Should I mention this to her on Monday?

Wow! I would be so annoyed. That person has a problem and doesn’t want to be held accountable. Following up with people is reasonable at all levels. Wonder if you could share the email with your boss and “ask for advice.” In your role, to be effective, you’ll need to follow up with people sometimes. Clarify the cultural expectations at your company and if this one person is the only one you need to tip toe around.

I just found out a new colleague was brought on at 20% higher salary than my current salary. (Have been w/ firm 1.5 years) She doesn’t have a 4-year degree (working on it). How do I bring this inequity up and ask to be compensated equally? I have years more experience and My work is more complex - she is basically a receptionist. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Mid-level when she's leading the call: please make sure you take notes. It's expected of the person not leading a call (note I always take notes)

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?

Witnessed ageism in a unusual way. I am a P, Male, 51
Client counterpart and I were discussing a Consultant and the client told me he didn’t want this guy because the consultant is in his 50s. I quietly told the client that cannot be a reason plus I am in my 50s and you should have seen the client back paddle with compliments for me. Just a weird situation. Ageism is real.

How to move things along with forgetful partners? I am a new 1st year and I am staffed with a partner who is swamped. I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

I’m new to the firm. My third project my manager was very hands off. He’s wants to have a discussion with me about my performance. He did not give me any support to work with; even when I asked! And my direct manager agrees with him, but it was my third week. What to do? I feel like I’m going to say something crazy. Any advice?

Help- my SIL showed me two dresses she rented for my shower, and I think they are super bridal/not very appropriate to wear as a guest or bridesmaid. I have asked others and they agree. I feel like my own outfit, a simple jumpsuit, pales in comparison to how over the top these dresses are. What can I say or do? I feel really down but also don’t want to start WW3 by saying something to her. I feel like I now need to rush to buy a new outfit.

I’m junior to two Legal Counsel (I work in-house) who are passive aggressive towards each other. They don’t attend each other’s meetings and leave each other out of email CC’s. It’s pretty clear this is done on purpose as one of them has bitched to me about the other.

What would you do in this situation?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?
