I turned to audiobooks as an experiment and found them useful for chiefly two types of books in decreasing order.
1 - Autobiographies (preferably narrated by the author) - Feels like listening to a great man retelling his own story (eg. Shoe Dog) and makes for a really nice experience
2 - Poetry or Anthologies of short stories for eg. Neil Gaiman narrating Caroline.
For larger works of fiction or more serious works of non fiction I still feel more surefooted and engaged when I have a physical book
This is basically what I do, too!
Yes, love them. Check out the apps Hoopla or Libby. It’s funded through your library
+1 for Libby it is a game changer! Don’t sleep on the tag feature. I have personalized them so i can circle back to the people who recommended the book to discuss.
Yeah all the time, super useful as your background task, like when doing chores, commuting, working out etc.
Yes. Audible and blinklist.
No. I love a real book with paper. I like to read pages and don’t love to listen to the audios. My husband, however, LOVES audio books.
Audiobooks only for learning stuff, like personal wealth.
Tried several apps and different methods but just can’t get into audiobooks or podcasts.. I blank for a few mins then rewind or just can’t focus or the voice just makes me sleepy .. paper books I love reading and can/have finished in one/couple of sittings.
I love audio books, but sometimes will buy favorites in multiple formats
I don’t like audio books for things that get into personal improvement and grooming across domains such as finance, leadership, management, etc. They require my focus and action items to work on so…. it’s helpful to have something to take notes on like some folks have said here already
Yes..
I do use them, but don’t find them suitable for this type of reading. Mostly use it for listening to stories with kids or in the car.
Nope, I prefer using old fashioned books with paper. I’ll listen to them in long car rides with husband, though. He really likes audio books.
Audible and Libby for all books except cookbooks all the time. Love it. I will buy in multiple formats for some topics / favorites.
Most of the times I start with the audiobook. Once I notice the book needs some notes taken I order a paper copy.
Love audiobooks, especially those narrated by authors (i.e., Madeleine Albright, Adam Grant)
