Try to punt the move a bit. Market is pretty rattled after the fires.
Reddit probably. Get a room with someone that’s fully furnished so you can get your bearings and figure out what part of the city you want to be in
We’ve had luck finding a tenant through FB Groups. Find a relevant group (usually titled sublet or short term) in an area you like.
I’d prefer FB Groups over Reddit just because you can see profile picture and in some cases leave a bit more on who’s who. Sure can be fake but better than no profile on Reddit. But definitely try both, and multiple groups on FB.
What part of LA are you thinking about? @Manager 1 is right about the housing market, especially the short term market, being stressed right now, particularly in those areas close to the fires. People whose homes survived but need significant remediation are taking up a lot of the short term market right now.
Can you wait a few months until things have stabilized here? And again, a lot will depend on exactly where in LA you want to be.
A month isn’t enough time. Where you looking at? Just factor in the commute. at rush hour the rule of thumb is three times the distance
I would see about airbnb or look at Facebook marketplace and see if anyone has a room for rent. One month might be tough to get a feel for LA. Much like NYC different neighborhoods have different vibes (Westside verses Valley for example) but also where do you find a job and live in comparison. LA much more spread out and our public transportation isn’t anywhere near smooth as NYC.
i live in manhattan beach and moved from nyc! i am looking for a short term roommate please dm me if still interested!! ☺️
If you’re interested, I’d consider doing an apartment swap depending on the circumstances or subletting. I have a 2 bedroom in Santa Monica.
I used “RoomforRent” or look at college sublets. There’s a board for sublets on FB.
