Lost thinking about insurance. No kids (but probably 1-2 in the next few years; no house but likely will buy around that timeline). HH annual income is ~$500k (even split between spouse and I). We have some nominal disability insurance through our employers.

Few questions - what insurance to buy and amount? We have umbrella, renters, and car. I think --

1.) Long term disability - not really sure how much we should get.

2.) Term life - assume ladder but how much?

3.) Anything else?

I would get long term disability at 2/3 your income. 2/3 because as long as you pay with after tax dollars the benefit is tax free. You probably don’t need life insurance today but if you wanted to get it now when it’s cheapest and you know you qualify, I would do $2M 30 year on each of you. I would subtract from that insurance you get from work.

Why do 403b have such I fees? I almost want to stop contributing all together or just minimum 6% to meet the match. Possibly just rely on the pension but what if it’s underfunded when I retire?

I'm a long time user of mvelopes budgeting software, and we just got a notice that they're shutting the platform down at the end of the year.

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.
