Currently yes
I usually try to make myself that way
When I was in the bench I made sure to get trained on every assay. I ended up being the only analyst for 4 assays that were critical for a commercial project sooo I was irreplaceable
Then I left the lab (for an internal transfer) and had to train people for like a month
Love that someone else feels the same way I do. We work super hard for a reason!
I work hard and know I do a good job and I'm confident in my skills but I'm humble enough to realize that we are all replaceable. Whether it's other people, newer, cheaper labor, or AI. We can all be replaced.
Do you think so? I mean we are all unique individuals but there’s been so many times I’m sad to see people leave and realized their work can’t be duplicated
I've had the opposite feeling that I am entirely replaceable as a research associate. Seems like the data analysis work that I've built my career on is becoming increasingly automated. I think AI could replace most of us in the next decade.
So sorry to hear that
I’ve always just made sure I do a good enough job so that I don’t get fired or let go for reasons I can control. I’ve never felt irreplaceable. It probably is your confidence speaking, but if you suddenly refused to work do you think they would keep you?
Same here I always try and work hard and do my best. They definitely wouldn’t keep me if I refused to work lol
