Not sure what you are asking here. Professional behavior is always expected. Even for clients with stronger relationships, it maybe ok to be more informal or friendly but you still should always maintain a degree of professionalism.
Yeah, being fake is what comes off as being fake. That being said, being informal and getting people to like you on a personal level while maintaining professionalism is definitely a skill. Some people can straddle that line much easier than others.
