Bain & Company Is it truly easier to get in a smaller MBB office?
Have heard a lot for different opinions on these. The logic is that it’s easier because there is a lot of supply in cities like NY, Chicago and SF, but the counter argument is that the offices with less supply are also way smaller and have a lot less demand.

A BCG recruiter ghosted me after she reached out to schedule an interview. How long should I wait before following up? What is the common courtesy to give to ppl at BCG. I don’t wanna come off as too aggressive but I really need to get this interview set as there are other pending confirmations Boston Consulting Group

If you are worried about case interviews. Then you can delay your interview once you’re invited if you’re a lateral hire (1-2+ months). This will allow give you an actual deadline to prepare which will motivate you rather than an abstract next year goal which will cause you to procrastinate.
Case interviews aren’t rocket science. It’s a process and a mindset that you have to get into which can be prepared for within a reasonable timeframe.
I say go for it, delay your interview and prepare. 👍🏼
We hire year round. Practice until you’re there. 2 cases a day, leverage your MBB friends to get good actionable feedback.
Honestly if you have a month and can force 1-2 hours of prep a day + 30 mins math prep you can get to a very strong casing level in no time

You don’t need a year to be better at interviews, maybe a few months. Don’t get intimidated by the process, that’s half the battle.
Deliberate practice is key.

Your hunch is pretty valid, but it’s not like you get 100s of shots at other jobs too, so to me it’s sorta wasted energy.
I was in the same boat as you, dinged at UG, came over as a lateral many moons later.
@C1 thanks for that, issue is majority of my friends say delaying a few months (actually interviewing in Dec/Jan) is risky given quotas can be filled by the time Aug ends. You feel they’d still be considering folks in Jan/Feb for lateral hires (US Offices)? In a COVID world...
Coach
I’d apply in the near future but really prepare for interviews in the meantime if there is a hiring window now; no one really knows whether hiring will be happening in the new year, so I’m not sure that it’s worth waiting for spots that may not exist? Like your friends say.
In the Covid world, many start dates have been pushed back to around Oct-Jan anyway, so I don’t know that they’d necessarily be incentivized to hire more folks then...(disclaimer that I don’t have any insider info)
Prep hard for a month and you should be able to get there.
Will echo that you can nail cases with concerted effort in 1-2 months. The other thing I’ll say is even if friends refer you now it may be unlikely that MBBs are doing a lot of lateral hiring so you may have to wait anyway
