Bain & Company Is there a cool down at Bain even if you don’t make it past the resume screen? Applied a couple months ago on a whim (and a referral from a friend) having no experience with anything business/consulting related as a lateral (only had experience in research prior). Since then have had 2 months at a t2 firm plus some biz dev for a startup. I’m aiming to reapply at 6 months. For context graduated from a t10 school and thought I wanted to go to med school for a little bit lol. Bain & Company

Any insight on operations path. Been seeing stuff for product development and procurement fellow. Curious to know career progressions here, client facing or not, go to market with strategy projects or operate individually etc.

FWIW, I've worked across McKinsey teams that had both Strategy and Implementation teams. Implementations gets blamed when the plan doesn't work...I felt bad for them. It's a really tough job.
Sure, and similarly an implementation associate/coach wouldn’t be blamed if things beyond their workstream don’t go well since they aren’t responsible for the project delivery at the end of the day. The leadership typically stays consistent from the initial diagnostic phase (when the strategy and targets are set) up through implementation, so they’ll be accountable throughout the process.
Implementation does not grow at the same pace. They are given upto 4 years at each level to grow
Love it - can we connect offline would love to learn more about it
I applied via on campus (MBA). A referral would go a long way 😉
May I ask if you made it past R1? Feel free to DM me.

What types of candidates are they looking for?
Would check out the profiles on the McK website and job info here. I would say typically post MBA/graduate school with 3-4 years of industry or consulting experience. Heavy focus EQ client mentality

Do you think workday implementations is viable experience?
What about at analyst level?
You can check online! I think the profile tends to be post MBA or 6-8 YOE. I am not in recruiting though, just saw a note internally about hiring needs.
Any mck fish willing to refer?
Is this just for Associates or the EM level as well?
Yeah, I’ve never encountered someone who joined as an EM. I had 15 YOE and still had to enter as an Associate, like many others.

Do you know which office or is this for all?
Abu Dhabi exclusively?
Most offices in North America. Would check the website!
Any McKinsey 🐠 willing to refer?
Dm me! Happy to connect.
OP you’re trying to take all the referrals for NW’s email for yourself!! Hahah
Hahah at Mc2! We were asked to check our network—- but in my network, no one is interested in McK ASC role though so figured I would post here :)
Do McKinsey Implementation consultants scratch their heads at what the MBB team put together like other implementation consultants? Or does that strategy team ask for our input?
I am in MI but 70% of my projects have been pure strategy. I’ve been waiting for one of them to evolve into an implementation phase project so it may be a little better lifestyle and I know the clients...hasn’t worked out yet because there is usually a lag period between when phase 1 (strategy/assess ends) and phase 2 (implementation begins). During that lag period, you get put on other projects. However, the same AP, partners stay on board with the client through strategy and implementation work since they want it be their client homes for promotion so it’s not like it’s two distinct groups. Hope that helps!

Anyone wanna refer me?
7 total YOE( 3 in consulting, 4 in industry)
Interested in US offices (Atlanta, LA, NJ) or other locations (just not NYC or SF)
What about SM from big4 and corporate experience before that?
I think there a few SM at big 4 that start as associates and then get promoted quickly bc they know how to do the job. It’s not common but there a few who make the move! Just maybe hit the ego working with a 26 year old EM :)
I do this work currently at big 4 as a SC. How is the wlb at McK?
Lol McK is awesome but not known for WLB :) as an MI associate, you can just as easily get staffed on due diligence projects that are 13 hours a day or easier 9-10 hour a day projects
