Feeling super low. I got an offer for a PM role with Capital One that I was so excited about. After sending a negotiation letter however, the team then WITHDRAWS my offer saying I’m no longer a good fit . I was respectful and only asked for things that my existing org offered, and made it clear I was happy to adjust if not feasible. I’m beyond disappointed and borderline depressed. It’s been a long job search and this feels awful
Doesn’t hurt to try right? And even if they won’t budge, your salary will likely grow much faster at McK than Accenture.
Prob can’t negotiate, but McK salary may be because they’d dropped you a peg.
On the one hand, your growth will be significantly faster and you’re trading down for a much higher bonus, better prestige, exit ops, etc
On the other, your tenure there will likely be shorter than with ACN.
You’ll grow comp way more & faster at McK plus supremely better exit ops. $15K in grand scheme is nothing. Think long term. No brainer. Only exception is if you wanna do consulting long term (PPMD route) then yes there is an argument to stay at Accenture due to better culture and WLB
Will you though? In the consulting track, sure. But in one of their other service offering probably not. McK doesn’t pay everyone across their firm equally.for example I was talking to BCG for a senior manager role in digital and they offered me less then what I was making at BAH. And nowhere near what EM’s are making there.
I was in similar situation. Was experienced hire brought in a Sr analyst level, and ended up taking slight pay decrease. What ppl are saying about pay trajectory all really depends on what group you're in, as not all McK client facing roles are considered equal within the firm when it comes to pay (e.g., expert vs integrative vs delivery). And also depends on how long you stick around and can get promoted. Pay is a wash.
However, exit ops is also wash - McK name helps but you also see plenty of big4 in FAANG.
Biggest value driver for the move is truly learning opportunities. You'll be surrounded by some great minds.
Same pay trajectory as strategy/generalist track
stay at Accenture then

You probably have room for negotiation tbh. But even if no budge, LEAVE WTF LOL

Either way just having the name of McK on your resume will open more doors
Base is typically fixed for each level, but you can likely negotiate the sign on bonus that will help to bridge the gap to your current salary
How much and what level?
Target bonus in offer is or average rating. You will get the full amount for standard rating.
They offered me 190k to sit in a room and program and stop being a consultant no sales goals and no bonus. I make 200+ now as a manager and turned it down.
How much bonus did they offer? They give you bonus target for your first year in the offer letter
This puts your tc over what you make now. How much is bonus as Accenture? 5k?
Worth noting McK/MBB in general bonus structure is a bit different than at a lot of other firms. The expected bonus they quote really is average - as in you will get that amount with the “normal” rating that 70 some odd percent of people get.
Not sure how it’ll balance out in the first year knowing that, but you definitely don’t have to do the same “they’re quoting me the top bonus that no one actually gets; I may be at 25% of that” type of arithmetic.
My instinct is the same as others: feels likely that the McK bonus and higher 401k contribution will roughly make up for the base gap in year 1 (plus or minus a few k) and you’ll quickly surpass Accenture income going forward.
This is true regarding bonus structure. Experienced hires can negotiate salary and bonus
