Moved from a culture of off camera meetings to an (internal) role in an org where cameras on, while balancing 5-6 hours a day of meetings. I am struggling two months in. Our boss also recently let us know that she thinks a “dress code” needs to be enforced. I am finding it miserable, because I still have work to do, and oftentimes don’t need to be on cam.

Love the job. Hate the meeting culture. I get the camera on policy for 1-1s or small groups but when going over a spreadsheet who cares?

Would you be multitasking in the meetings if they were in person? If yes, turn on your camera and multitask away (people do that all the time anyway).

If no, is it the visual accountability that is a challenge?

Do you even need to be in these meetings if you're multitasking and not contributing?

Cameras on genuinely helps with visual clues we can't get otherwise. It is objectively valuable (yes even in big virtual meetings).

If the bigger issue is the new dress code, I just keep a pile of work shirts by my desk for working from home and still wear shorts/whatever where you cant see!

Good luck!!

See I feel it’s just a bit rude to be looking off while someone is talking. The dress code is fine, I don’t love it but I’ll comply.

It’s just a different culture than I’m used to and that’s fine.

Why can’t you multitask with camera on? They can’t see what you’re doing on your screen.

This is an annoyance but shouldn’t be hindering your productivity or burning you out.

Dress code is also annoying but also not a big deal.

like

How would they even know? You’re looking at the same screen regardless.

To add context, I really enjoy the role itself. I’m just finding myself a bit burned out. I don’t use work as a socialization tool. . . I do that after work and I’m pretty active in my community so this last week I’ve let my run club, some volunteering, and my fitness classes slip because I just wanted to be by myself.

I feel less productive. I have a lot of meetings where I could easily multitask if I could be camera off.

Hey ZSers,

I have been selected into ZS for the BTAC role under CCM(Customer-Centric Marketing). My YOE is 3.8 in Cognizant, and the domain is ETL, DW, cloud(AWS).

My question is, ZS is giving a great package compared to what I have in Cognizant (Above 100% hike), and Cognizant is ready to retain me by giving somewhere 50%-60% hike. Will ZS be a good choice for me to switch? In terms of growth, technologies, work, pay. Or should I accept what cognizant is giving and get retained?

Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

Does anyone know if we can reimburse expenses for items listed in Wageworks while on maternity?

I know we cannot expense phone/internet/ commuter benefit as I am not actively doing work.

However, for other items that fall under wage works reimbursement, I couldn’t find anything in writing yet.

A person in the financial/wealth-building industry with title “Director, Manager Selection at _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _” is willing to talk to me about “quantitative”roles at their firm.

We emailed a bit back and forth and now he said he can have a call with me…. I’m so nervous…! Idk what kinda things to even talk about? They HAVE to know I’m looking for a job, but idk how to be sly about that?? It seems like they’d be taking a risk on me due to my background not being very standard…
