Hi Fishes
I would like to know about the client interviews (especially in data science or machine learning roles).
Are these interviews tough?
Are these interviews meant to assess technical knowledge? For example, what is binomial distribution, what are different data structures in python, ml algorithms etc.
I would request each of the nagarrians to share their thoughts irrespective of the technologies you are working.
I am thankful to you for taking time and helping me out.

I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Have you ever been in house before? If not, your lack of in house experience may be the company’s justification.
10k lower than my lower range. I declined the offer.
To be frank, you probably dodged a bullet. If they pulled such an unprofessional stunt who knows what else they’re liable to do once you’re employed there.
If this is your first in house job, they will want someone with a mix of biglaw and in house experience.
This happened to me but I have some more interviews. Is this common?
Typically you take a cut going in-house from biglaw.
Litigation or transactional? Is it a new industry but the same practice area (e.g., corporate role in a new industry)?
Litigation. I applied for both the senior and junior roles as advertised. My application for the junior role was declined, but I was contacted to interview for the senior role and progressed through the various stages, likely because it was in the same practice area, though the role was in-house. I was shocked when they ultimately offered me the junior role — the very position they had already declined me for.

Can you ask for clarification? I think that would be the next best step here

Oh that’s weird.
Seems unprofessional based on what you’re saying. But that’s how the market is right now. Employers have all the leverage so they can get away with treating applicants like trash.
