I would say that advertising is still fun. And quite honestly very fun. Maybe less than a decade ago and maybe even more less than 50 years ago.
But we get paid to come up with ideas.
We get to work on writing, design, coding, strategy and films. We get to utilize philosophy and psychology to craft messages and we get to work on lots of projects at a time.
We get to be at home. In an office. Off on location for shoots. At awards shows and in studios. We get to travel to cool locations (or just go to Mexico a lot) on a clients dime. We get to read things that interest us as part of our work to get better.
Imagine being stuck in a job where you work only with numbers and only one project that never ends. Or only code some financial website for the rest of your days.
I think out of all the jobs out there advertising is probably one of the most fun still. Maybe less than before. But probably more than most. Or maybe it’s just my ADHD talking. But I love the constant changes, challenges and projects.
Nope. More work, less play, smaller budgets, stagnant salaries, fewer production company parties, and fewer commercial shoots… but it used to be the best non-corporate, corporate job in existence.
Damn… the full gamut within three responses.
Responses. No wasted time or effort; we covered the entire range of usual responses quickly, and now we can go about our days. Job well done; kudos all around.
I wonder if it’s fun yet.
