This is so sweet! 1yr olds literally care nothing about their first birthday or the gifts they will get! I think I got my nieces more clothes and shoes for their 1st but I also encouraged their parents to open a 529 so they can start receiving monetary investments that will make such a big difference for them long term.
You caring this much is really the best gift. You both deserve the world 💕
If you want to splurge/do an ongoing gift, the Panda Crate (baby division of KiwiCo) is great. My son has been getting them since his first birthday, and he’s almost 3 now. Every couple months they send a new box with age appropriate toys, and the quality is amazing. You can also do a single box vs a subscription if you don’t want to spend so much
Baby friendly photo album. A lot of them love looking at pictures of family members.
The baby doesn’t realize it’s their bday nor care about gifts at that age - they’ll likely prefer the wrapping paper to anything you get them 😂 I’d suggest getting a small gift for the baby (you can ask the parents what they don’t have / would like) but spoiling the parents (especially the mom if she is the one who gave birth and/or breastfed and/or spent more time with the baby!) with something that will make them happy. The first year with a baby is an absolute roller coaster (physically, mentally, in every area of your life) and the first birthday should truly be more of a milestone for the parents, in my humble opinion ☺️
