FOR them or TO them? If your boss is asking for your input regarding their performance, that’s honestly pretty normal. Your perspective could help your boss give a more rounded performance review to these team members.
If your boss is asking that you give the reviews TO them, that’s bunk. Tell them that you’d be more than willing to provide input but feel from an organizational standpoint, it would be better for them to hear it from them.
I agree that this is strange. Perhaps if you must deliver critical feedback, you make sure to compliment sandwich it? Idk.
Surely they’re not completely shitting the bed. Gotta be some redeeming quality to their work that you can use as encouragement while still being candid about improvement areas.
Or maybe they do suck!
Perhaps your boss is checking your level and how you manage or how you deliver feedback.
Or perhaps there is a particular skill they want you to impart, just ask for clarity on expectations.
Guiding juniors can come from anywhere. But performance reviews should be their direct line / Director.
